Sport and Remedial Massage At The Westlake Clinic

Mel Cash, Principal Tutor for London School of Sports Massage explains that "minor injury is by far the most common musculoskeletal problem but as modern medicine puts effort into treatment of increasingly serious conditions, minor everyday injuries are becoming less adequately dealt with, although they can still be extremely painful and may seriously affect a person's occupation, sport or quality of life.

Furthermore, if not treated properly in the early stages, a minor injury can sometimes lead to a more serious condition in the long term.

Sports massage can treat the majority of such minor problems quickly and effectively."

So what is sport and remedial massage?

Sports and Remedial Massage is a treatment that loosens up tight muscles, breaks up adhesions in muscle fibres, and generally focuses on restoring and/or maintaining the full functionality of your muscles.

Is sport and remedial massage right for me?

The term sports massage may be considered misleading as this treatment is beneficial for a wide range of individuals of all ages and abilities and not just for the benefit of sports performers.

Among the many conditions that often improve with sports and remedial massage are:

• Neck/shoulder pain
• Back Pain
• Tension headaches
• Sciatic pain
• Tennis or golf elbow

If you have any of the above or similar issues, or are recovering from an injury, then a weekly session would be ideal for you.

Or if you are fit and healthy, a monthly massage will help you to stay that way.

What can I expect during treatment?

The therapist will evaluate your case history and carry out a movement assessment before determining your treatment.

Sessions last 50 minutes and clients are asked to wear comfortable loose fitting clothing. Please note that you may be asked to remove clothing to carry out aspects of your treatment.

Sports and Remedial Massage Therapists at the Westlake Clinic have a great deal of experience in rehabilitation and injury prevention.
